Susan Heath

RN MSN

Nurse
Gardener, grandmother of twin girls

Susan Heath is a nurse who cares for patients with Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia and other movement disorders. She has more than 20 years of experience working with doctors to provide deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy, in which implanted devices deliver electrical impulses to areas of the brain involved in motor function. She has expertise in programming DBS implants, and teaches patients and their families about the DBS process, including what to expect during and after surgery, and how individual patients' symptoms relate to their condition and medication cycle. She enjoys troubleshooting difficult cases.

Heath earned her master's degree in nursing from UCSF. An expert on DBS, she has taught nationally and locally, and wrote a chapter on Parkinson's disease for a neuroscience nursing textbook.

Heath is a second-generation Bay Area native and, in her free time, loves to be with her family, including her two children and grandchildren. She ran the Bay Area trails for 35 years until knee problems caused her to change workouts, and she now enjoys the Dailey Method.
